I’m Back.

Well, I love Alabama, but I love the prayer room even more. I had an amazing trip and got to do some pretty sweet stuff. I didn’t realize how much of a blessing the prayer room is until I didn’t have it available. The Lord is doing so much stuff other than IHOP. It was cool to see how He is moving. I am excited to get back into my schedule!

I’m going to attempt to explain this, hopefully it makes some sense. In 1 Peter 1:16 it says “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” I like to think of this invitaion to be holy as an invitation to be free. Free from sin and life without restraint. What does that look like? It looks like Revelation 4:8- And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and they do not cease to say, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.” (I’m not saying the four living creatures are going to worship me.)

God is Holy. He is totally other than. He is not restrained by anything or anyone. He is completely free from restraint. Nothing can hold Him back, nothing can bring Him down. He is not bound by sin. So the invitation in 1 Peter is to be holy or to be free from sin. God has called us to live in freedom. He has called us to be liberated from bondage. He has given us opportunity to experience what He feels in being Holy. Oh what an awesome invitation! Who is He that He wants us to be like Him? Who is He that He would allow us, weak and broken, to experience His pleasure of being free? Not only does He invite us to do this, He gives us the ability to actually walk in it! His grace is enough! I want to experience this in full. I don’t want to settle for less than what He has given me.

I have realized I do not truly understand the sinfulness of sin. I have always been the good kid and just known that sin is bad. So I have began a study of how God views sin, and what Jesus says about sin. I only have two days of study under my belt, but I have never been more thankful in my life! Instead of trying to piece together my random thoughts on this topic, I am going to let you read a few lines from Studies in the Sermon on the Mount by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones.

“Indeed the incarnation would never have been necessary were it not for sin. The problem of sin is as profound as that. To tell mankind what to do is not enough. God had done that in the law given through Moses, but no one had kept it. ‘There is none righteous, no, not one.’ All the exhortations to men and women to live a better life had failed before Christ ever came…Whatever else sin may be, it is at least something that could be dealt with only by the coming of the eternal Son of God from heaven into this world and by His actually going to the death of the cross. That had to happen; there was no other way. God, I say with reverence, would never have allowed His only-begotten, beloved Son to suffer in the way He did unless it was absolutely essential: and it was essential because of sin.”

I know that isn’t anything any of us haven’t ever heard before, but lets not take it for granted. I am overwhelmed by the love of my Creator again today.

What Entertains You?

•March 21, 2007 • 5 Comments

How much t.v. do you watch in a week? How many movies do you watch a week? How much time do you spend eating out a week? How much money do you spend on entertainment in a week? If we were to honestly answers all these questions, we would probably be suprised and annoyed with ourselves. We are a people who must be entertained constantly. We are always searching for something to do with our free time.

What about being entertained by something that changes you? What about getting messed up by something that is ok to get messed up by? How about enjoying and being enjoyed by someone who created you for that very reason? How about Divine Entertanment? Oh how we have filled ourselves with things that do not satisfy! We haved looked to everything except God for entertainment. No wonder we our so dull and boring. I think it’s time to seek our Maker for fun and entertainment! I mean that is why He created us isn’t it? I think if we could grasp the idea that God is the best form of entertainment, we would be seeing many more miracles and demonstrations of His power regularly. For instance: healing in public places, prophesy that changes peoples lives, souls being saved, dreams that last all night, visions that shake us and change us, getting messed up in His presence. We need to change our idea of entertainment. We need to seek for the promises of the Word. We need to experience the power of God regularly. How hungry are we really?

Isaiah 55:1-2 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.”

I think I’ll let that passage speak for itself.
