The Renewed Mind

•March 12, 2007 • 2 Comments

I am writing this post due to millions of request for my thoughts on the renewed mind (Or because Molly asked me). I have been studying this topic for awhile and it seems to have no end. The more I search the Word, I find tons of hints and clues on what the renewed mind looks like. I have not come to a final conclusion, but I’ll give you what I got thus far.

Romans 12:2-“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

The renewed mind is a mind that has a different perspective on things. It is the perspective of heaven to earth. It is God’s perspective. It is not just our thoughts that are different, but that our entire way of thinking is transformed. It is thinking from a different reality, a heavenly reality. When we begin to have this view or perspective, then we can begin to prove what the will of God is. What is the will of God? To show people what he is like. To reveal Himself through displaying His power. To destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8-“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

God wants to invade this earth with kingdom reality and the only way to do that is to have a people with renewed minds. I have so often just viewed my mind as filthy and carnal, which is true to a certain extent. But I have also realized that God created our minds to be an instrument to birth the realities of heaven on earth. This is why Paul urged us to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. Every thought we take captive is one step closer to a renewed mind(ooh, i like that line!). I believe this is why we are constantly battling our thought life. The devil does not want us to have renewed minds because he knows that if we begin to walk in this truth, he can do nothing about it and heaven will invade earth through us. So what does a renewed mind look like practically? Setting our minds on things above and taking every thought captive is a really good start. Filling our minds with the Word. Setting nothing wicked before our eyes and letting only pure and righteous things fill us. Not being impressed by what satan or demons can do, but rather standing in awe of what God has done and is doing and will do. I have noticed that every time I am in a conversation about the supernatural, it always ends by talking about demons. Lord forgive me. A renewed mind is so consumed by the thoughts of God and His power that it doesn’t have room to think about demons.

All these thoughts are kind of jumbled and sparatic, but hopefully it makes some sense. I’ll end by giving what I think is one of the greatest examples of a renewed mind in the Word . Jesus in Luke 9:29-”As He prayed, the appearence of His face was altered. and His robe became white and glistening.” What the stink is that all about. Jesus obviously had a renewed mind. I want to pray and have my entire appearance change because I see heaven opened and am filled with the glory of its radiance.

The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind

Here are some really good lines from Bill Johnson’s book:

  • It is unnatural for a Christian to not have an appetite for the impossible.
  • One of the major functions of miracles and supernatural living is to offer immediate, irrefutable proof of what God wants to happen on earth.
  • We were born under an “open heaven.” Without that blessing we will fail to resource earth with heaven’s resources.
  • The renewed mind enables His co-laborers to prove the will of God. We prove the will of God when we put on display the reality of heaven.
  • We thrive with prophetic revelation, but perish without it.
  • Jesus got what I deserved so that I could get what He deserved.
  • The Promises of God are like the rudder to a ship. Reviewing them sets the direction for my whole life.

Asking for Boldness

I have a desire to pray for healing in public places and see the power of God released. But of course I also have a fear of man that keeps me from doing it. I was sitting on the couch the other morning asking the Lord to give me a boldness and destroy the fear of man that is holding me back. About 30 seconds after I had finished praying, He gave me Psalm 138:3- In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.

I realized how truly weak and broken I am. I can do nothing apart from Him. I also realized that all I have to do is ask Him to give me the boldness and He will. I don’t have to lean on my own strength, I have the Holy Spirit to do the knitty gritty for me! I know that is anything profound or special, but at the same time, how come I still have’nt stepped out of my little box? It is time to stop thinking about myself and just trust in the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Good cheap food for cheap, and it’s good!

•March 2, 2007 • 1 Comment

So I discovered tonight that Hulahan’s (at 119th) has half price appetizers from 4-8 pm mon.-thur.  I’m pretty sure it’s 4-8 pm anyway. The only down side is you half to sit in the bar/ lounge area to get the deal. I had some yummy chicken nachos with all the goods and it was a hefty portion of food. This may or may not interest you, but I thought it was a good deal! Well, it beats Applebees at least.

Destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

This was Jesus’ assignment, it was the disciples assignment, and it is our assignment also. God wants us to destroy the works of the devil on a daily basis. He has called us to demonstrate His will “on earth as it is in heaven.” I am challenged today to walk in this reality of the supernatural realm and demonstrate the power of God for the glory of His name.

My first post.
